Kitchen curtains

An overview of the kitchen curtain:

Most Kitchen don’t have a lot of windows in them, so the use of Window Treatments is limited. There is usually one or two smaller windows placed between the cupboards, and sometimes the only outside light comes from a family room window or sliding door, which is some distance away from the actual kitchen area. This is usually not a problem because the kitchen should have very good lighting. Where there is a window you should chose a curtain that will give a bright cheery feeling. Also make sure that the Kitchen Curtains allow good breeze flow through the room. Most of the windows that I’ve seen in the kitchen have been over the kitchen sink. It could be that that is the place that a lot of time is spent preparing food and washing dishes, but what ever the reason it is nice to have a view out of the house, especially if you have a nice view.

Choosing the kitchen curtains:

If you have a 30 inch window over your kitchen sink and a view of something better than your neighbors garbage cans, you should think about side curtains and a valance over the top in a light combination color that would compliment your counter top and cabinets. You may want to block the morning or afternoon sun from shinning in and heating up the kitchen more than necessary. If this is your situation you could add blinds to the above combination to block the the sun when you want and be completely open when not needed.

Textures:

The Kitchen Curtain needs to be made from a material that is easily and avoidably cleaned. The stains that can come from the occasional splash in the kitchen can ruin a set of curtains. There are many textures available. The most popular are a Polyester – Cotton blend, a 100% Polyester as well as 100% Cotton. Everyone has there own favorite and will do well to chose those that you are familiar with the cleaning style and cycle.

Color:

You have to chose the color combination for your kitchen that will be best suited to you. If you have a lot of light coming through the window find a color that will not fade quickly. If you want a dark color then you may need a backing to protect from the fade. Take into consideration the the possible stain. What color would stand up the best?

Let’s go over the things that we have discussed. If you know what shape you want for your Kitchen Curtain, side curtains with valances, or valances alone with blinds or full curtains over the whole window, you will make the choice by the size and direction that the window is facing. Next you have to chose the texture of the material. If you want lace or shear or soft cotton, you have gone through the choices and made yours. Next the color is determined by the contrast you want with the counter top and the cabinets. With these decisions made you can take these notes and either make your own curtains or have someone else make them for you.
